Woman's death is investigated

Aiken County authorities are investigating the death of a Windsor woman who was found on her front porch Monday afternoon by a neighbor.

An autopsy will be conducted on the woman today in Newberry, S.C., according to a news release sent out by Lt. Michael Frank, spokesman for the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office was called at 3:10 p.m. by the woman's neighbor, who had found her lying on the front porch of her home in the 700 block of Oak Ridge Club Road, the statement said.

Investigators found the driver's door of the woman's Toyota Corolla ajar about 60 to 70 feet from her mobile home, the statement said.

"We're treating it as a suspicious death at least until an autopsy is conducted," Lt. Frank said.

Child left in hot car; grandmother charged

A 46-year-old Aiken grandmother was charged with cruelty to children during the weekend after leaving her 8-year-old grandson in a hot car, according to a police report.

Barbara Williams Perry, of the 900 block of Abbeville Avenue Northeast, was released at the scene, the report from the Aiken Department of Public Safety states.

Police received an anonymous report at about 4 p.m. Saturday that a green Chevrolet was parked at Rose's on Richland Avenue with a child inside, the report states.

The officer found the boy in the front seat with the windows down, but he was perspiring heavily, according to the report.

An infrared thermometer reading showed that the temperature inside the car was 142.5 degrees, according to the report.

Man attacks woman, then fights rescuers

An Augusta woman told police that a man attacked her Sunday at her home and fought two men who came to help her.

According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, Donna Jenkins, 25, was in an argument with a man when he struck her in the face.

Another man, Jarrell Frye, emerged from her McAlpine Drive home and fought with the attacker in the road fronting the house, according to the report.

During the fight, Mr. Frye was hit in the face and head. After the fight concluded, the man threw a brick at another witness before fleeing in a black Nissan Maxima, the report said.

Mr. Frye was treated by Gold Cross ambulance for wounds from an earlier hit-and-run at the same location.

He was arrested after authorities discovered he had an outstanding arrest warrant, according to the report.

Electronics, music are stolen from car

More than $2,000 worth of electronic equipment and compact discs were stolen from an Augusta man's parked sport utility vehicle at a Mexican restaurant Sunday night, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.

Charlton Carswell said he locked the doors to his Chevrolet Tahoe before entering Vallarta Mexican Restaurant in the 2800 block of Washington Road.

When he returned to his vehicle after a little more than an hour, Mr. Carswell found an XM satellite radio, a digital camera and a cell phone missing.

A Game Boy and 100 CDs were also taken, according to the report.

Richmond County authorities found a small crack in the driver's door near the lock and damage to the dashboard where the radio was taken.

Investigators took fingerprints.

Man, 31, is charged with sex with girl, 14

A 31-year-old Columbia man was arrested on Sunday and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

According to a report from the Aiken Department of Public Safety, a 14-year-old girl told investigators at the sheriff's office that James E. Bush Jr. performed sex acts with her twice between Sept. 1 and Feb. 17 in Aiken.

Mr. Bush was also booked into the Aiken County Detention Center on three bench warrants from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, including driving with a suspended license.
