AUGUSTA, Ga. - Col. (Ret.) Jasper R. "Johnny" Johnson died June 8, 2006 after a protracted battle with multiple myeloma. Col. Johnson was born October 29, 1921 in Durham, NC, the son of Eva May Morgan Johnson and Edwin P. Johnson. Col. Johnson entered the United States Army during World War II and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Among his decorations were the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Prior to his retirement, Col. Johnson served as President of the Physical Evaluation Board at Ft. Gordon and, after retirement from the Army, became Executive Director of the Augusta-Richmond County Clean Community Commission. Col. Johnson was married for 53 years to Katherine Elizabeth Johnson, who died September 28, 2000. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, James R. Johnson and Nancy S. Johnson, of Atlanta, GA, Joseph E. Johnson and Pamela V. Johnson of Alexandria, VA, and Robert A. Johnson and Nancy R. Johnson of Rochester, NY; nine grandchildren and one brother, Wade C. AIKEN, SC - Norman Lee Bryan, 65 of Partridge Ct., beloved husband of Gayle Lester Bryan, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at his residence. A native of Bloomington, IL, Mr. Bryan was a son of the late Vernon Edward and Doris Marian Givens Bryan. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in geology and a minor in archaeology. He served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force. He was a Professional Geologist and worked as a Exploration Geologist in base and precious metals for various mining companies throughout the United States and then worked as an Environmental Geologist at the Savannah River Site from 1987 until 2003. Mr. Bryan was also very active with the Boy Scouts of America starting in 1987. He served as District Commissioner, Assistant Scoutmaster of the National Jamboree Contingency Troop, was a member of the National Jamboree Staff three times, was a Philmont Contingent Leader and was presented with the Yanabe Yalangaway Award. He was a member of Aiken Church of Christ where he was an elder and had served as a short term missionary to Guyana in 2004. He was also a former vice president of the Aiken Gem and Mineral Club. Mr. Baucom was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a sergeant, and served for four years as an anti aircraft gunner in France and Germany, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Mrs. Boyce will be buried next to her husband, Captain Andrew Summers Boyce, United States Navy. A native of Wilmington, North Carolina, she was born on August 24, 1926 to the late Dewey Hobson Davis and Madeleine Pouilliart Davis. After receiving her Baccalaureate of Arts and Master of Arts from the University of Georgia, she taught English and French for many years, including faculty positions at the University of Georgia and Augusta College. She was also a certified United Nations translator. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Boyce was preceded in death by her oldest son, Andrew S. Boyce, Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Ker Boyce IV, and his wife, Donna, of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and James Petigru Boyce III, and his wife, Julie, of Kirkland, Washington.
