The CSRA Hydrangea Society will hold the second part of its plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton King Park.
The first part of the two-day plant sale, called Hydrangeas Galore ... and More, was held Saturday at the Aiken Farmer's Market.
More than 225 varieties of hydrangeas will be available Saturday at the park's pavilion.
Annette Ferris, the president of the organization, said plants at last week's event sold out quickly.
"We had over 200 plants. We never got the trucks unloaded - people were standing there waiting for us to unload the trucks," she said. "We were supposed to go from 9 (a.m.) to 3 (p.m.); we were finished by noon. We had all kinds of sales - from sales of herbs for a dollar or two to one man who bought $251 worth of hydrangeas."
The plant sale will feature hydrangeas in 1- and 3-gallon containers from various wholesale nurseries in the area, Ms. Ferris said. Prices vary depending on variety, she said.
Ms. Ferris said she was very surprised by the response from the public. She said that because of developments of new hydrangea varieties that bloom "from spring until fall," they have "made a resurgence."
"Hydrangeas - they're not for your grandmother anymore," she said. "You can have hydrangeas from May until December. They're beautiful - they're an absolutely wonderful plant."
Proceeds from the Aiken sale will benefit horticulture scholarships at Aiken Technical College, where the society's quarterly meetings are held. Proceeds from Saturday's sale will go toward the upkeep of the park's hydrangea garden.
