Musicians will be on canal tours

Leisurely cruises along the Augusta Canal will have musical accompaniment the second Friday of each month.

"This is a new series," said Rebecca Rogers, the marketing director for the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, about the Moonlight Music Cruise. "We did try one last year with Eryn Eubanks, and it was a success. We have a different musical style once each month."

Not Gaddy and IDrum2U will be featured during the first cruise Friday. Mr. Gaddy will bring an assortment of drums to the event so participants can be a part of the drum circle on the boat.

The boats are licensed to hold 49 passengers; however, only about 30 will be able to take the first cruise to give room for the drums, Ms. Rogers said.

Other cruises, which will be held through November, will allow for about 35 passengers, she said. The first cruise will be from 7 to 9 p.m.; however, the time will change according to the season.

Other entertainers include Patrick Blanchard on July 14; Shawn Piazza on Aug. 11; Celtic music by Lillie Morris and Friends on Sept. 8; Kirsten Hughes, the orchestra conductor at John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School orchestra director, on flute, accompanied by her John S. Davidson Fine Arts School string orchestra students Oct. 13 and jazz music with Rob Foster on Nov. 10.
