NEWPORT, Wales - Robert Karlsson shot a 2-over 71 in the final round Sunday to win the Wales Open by three strokes.
He totaled 16-under 260 for 72 holes at Celtic Manor. Paul Broadhurst had a 68 to take second, with Jose-Filipe Lima (64) a further shot back in third. Colin Montgomerie (67) was fourth at 11-under 265.
It marked Karlsson's first victory since the 2002 European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland.
The Swede had his six-shot overnight lead cut to three after his fourth bogey by the 12th hole. But he birdied three of the next four to win comfortably despite bogeys at the last two holes.
Karlsson moved up to ninth place to make Europe's Ryder Cup team for September's match in Ireland.
Montgomerie made three birdies in a row from the 12th to improve his position.
