The insurance business isn't usually something to laugh about.
After 13 years in the business, Tony Chiera began to realize the need to bring a little laughter into others' lives and a little more fun into his own. So Jingles the Clown came to life about 10 years ago in North Augusta.
"It started out with the insurance business being full time," Mr. Chiera said. "The clown business was just part time."
But that changed.
After moving to Graniteville, the clown business became more of a full-time occupation for Mr. Chiera and his family.
With his wife, two daughters and one son, Jingles became Jingles and Crew, and the family home became The Acme Fun Factory Inc.
Now the family has a full-blown clown and magician merchandising business in Aiken, and the home is available for parties.
Mr. Chiera and his family have traveled South Carolina and Georgia to bring laughs to the young and old. As time went on, his daughters and wife turned to doing costumed characters at events rather than clowns.
It's Tony Chiera Jr. who is following in his father's gigantic clown footsteps; now almost 8 years old, "Jingles Jr." performs with his dad.
Jingles and Crew can been seen at S&S Cafeteria in North Augusta on Mondays and at Golden Corral in Augusta on Tuesdays.
