GreenJackets fail to hold on to lead

Asheville right fielder Daniel Carte doubled home Jason Van Kooten in the top of the eighth inning, and the Tourists beat the Augusta GreenJackets 4-2 on Saturday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

In front of 3,522 fans, the GreenJackets let an early 2-0 lead slip away to fall to 29-24 in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division.

The GreenJackets remain 7 games behind first-place Rome.

Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the first when Ben Copeland singled and stole second and third base. Mike Mooney's two-out single to center scored Copeland.

The GreenJackets scored their other run in the third, as Eugenio Velez hit a two-out triple and scored on a wild pitch by Asheville starter Brandon Durden.
