Seniors calendar



The Seniors Calendar lists items of interest to senior citizens. Call the service agencies for information. To list your activity, write to Seniors Calendar, The Augusta Chronicle, P.O. GET INVOLVED

Foster grandparent, senior companion programs: Limited-income people 60 and older are needed to work from 15 to 40 hours a week with special-needs children or adults; (706) 826-4480

retired and senior volunteer program: Offers people 55 and older an opportunity to apply their experience to meet critical community needs; pairs volunteers with their choice of organizations; (706) 826-4480

SENIOR WHEELS USA: Power wheelchairs available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost if they qualify (people who cannot walk or self-propel in a standard wheelchair); (800) 246-6010

SENIORS AND LAWMEN TOGETHER: Program assists with administrative duties, Augusta-Richmond County Law Enforcement Center, 401 Walton Way; volunteers choose days and hours of work; training provided; Kathleen Ernce, (706) 826-4480, ext. 300

WIDOW/WIDOWER SUPPER: 6:30 p.m. second Tuesdays, Piccadilly, Augusta Mall; 6:30 p.m. second Mondays, Shoney's, Whiskey Road, Aiken; Dutch-treat meal for bereaved spouses; (706) 729-6021

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Match seniors with low-cost prescription help through the GeorgiaCares program; flexible hours, training provided; Area Agency on Aging; (706) 210-2029

ST. JOSEPH CENTER FOR HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE

Discovery: 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Pastoral Care Library, St. Joseph Hospital, 2260 Wrightsboro Road; support group for those who have lost a loved one; (706) 729-6021

BOOK CLUB: 7 p.m. third Thursdays; St. Joseph Home Health Services, Daniel Village shopping center; for anyone interested in discussion of loss, grief, end-of-life care; hospice volunteers urged to attend; (706) 729-6021
