Robert A. Carmichael (HEPHZIBAH, Ga.)



HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mr. Robert A. Carmichael, age 55, of Hephzibah, entered into rest on Sunday morning, May 28, 2006 at his residence. A native of Mt. Pleasant, PA, he had resided in the Augusta area since moving from Ft. Campbell, KY in 1990. Mr. Carmichael had retired from the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon in April of 1991, as an E-6, Staff Sergeant, after 23 years of active duty. After his military career and retirement he attended Augusta Technical College where he pursued his love of cooking and received his degree in Culinary Arts. For the past 5 years he had worked as a Jailer with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at the Walton Way facility. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post No. 649 and Providence Baptist Church. He is survived by: his wife of 35 years, Sandra P. "Sandy" Carmichael; one son, Robert Scott Carmichael (Maria), Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Loretta Ortiz (Sammy), Land O Lakes, FL and Kristina Westbrook (Novie), Graniteville, SC; four sisters, (twin sister) Elma May Heminger, North Huntington, PA, Ruth Trapp, Saluda, TX, Garnet King, Mesquite, TX and April Carmichael, Latrobe, PA; six grandchildren, Kayla and Joshua Ortiz, Lydia, Kaitlyn and Victor Westbrook and Alexandra Carmichael and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm, on Saturday, June 3, 2006 in the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, with Dr. Donald Prosser, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 am until service time. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Fort Gordon Ceremonial Detachment. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm, on Friday, at the funeral home or friends may call at the residence. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Baptist Church, Building Fund., 3850 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30909
