Disher guides USC to victory


Vanderbilt 3, South Carolina 6


NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Phil Disher hit a homer and knocked in one run to help South Carolina beat Vanderbilt 6-3 on Saturday.

The Commodores (33-23, 16-14 Southeastern Conference) have already sealed their trip to the Southeastern Conference tourney with an 8-7 win over the Gamecocks on Thursday. Vanderbilt also beat the team 10-6 on Friday.

The Gamecocks (36-20, 15-15) have already secured a seventh seed.

Disher and four other Gamecock players brought in one run each. Trent Kline and Andrew Crisp had three hits and Reese Havens had two.

Four Vanderbilt players earned one hit or more. Brian Hernandez went 2-4 along with Pedro Alvarez who also went 2-4 with a homerun.

Harris Honeycutt (5-0) pitched eight innings for the Gamecocks, striking out six.

Ty Davis (5-5) pitched for Vanderbilt throwing 5.1 innings, striking out six. Stephen Shao came in to relieve and Nick Christiani closed the final two innings for Vanderbilt.
