AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dorothy Godbee Phinizy, age 79, died Friday, May 19, 2006 at Heritage Inn in Statesboro. She was born in Sylvania, the daughter of the late Manse Godbee and Annie Mae Hagan Godbee Robertson. She was a 1941 graduate of Sylvania High School and attended the University of Georgia. She left the University of Georgia early, due to the desperate need in WWII (1943) for medical administrative staffing in the VA Hospital in Augusta. She retired as a medical secretary from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta after more than five decades of continuous employment. She was an active member of the Augusta-Richmond County Historical Society and a member of Sylvania First Baptist Church. She was a devoted daughter and very supportive of her mother who preceded her in death at the age of 92. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Dr. Vernon H. Robertson. Survivors include first cousins, Myrtle L. Elder, Milton Lariscy and Lloyd M. Hagan of Sylvania, Linda H. Boykin of Newington, Daniel V. Hagan of Macon; several second cousins. ALEXANDER, Ga. - Alvin H. McClain, Sr., 80, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2006, at home with his family at his side. Mr. McClain was born in Burke County, Georgia on July 22, 1925 to the late Britton and Annie Sikes McClain. A life-long resident of Alexander, he was self-employed as a farmer and merchant. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Alexander and a veteran of the United States Navy (World War II). He was preceded in death by a son, Bill McClain; and two brothers, W. Z. McClain, Sr. and B. M. McClain. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Alexander, Georgia with Rev. Matthew Shryock, Rev.
