LYONS, Ga. - Mrs. Muriel S. Pittman, age 78, of Lyons (Johnson Corner Community) died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, surrounded by her family in Conyers, Ga. She was a native of Johnson County, living most of her life in the Johnson Corner Community. She was retired from Oxford Manufacturing Company and was a longtime member and supporter of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, an extraordinary woman and a blessing to all who knew her. The most important thing in her life was her family. In March, at the dedication of the "Healing Garden" at Winship Cancer Center, Emory Hospital in Atlanta, a brick was dedicated in her honor. It was engraved - Muriel S. Pittman "Our Hero". Her courage, strength and wisdom will be an inspiration to us all. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Pittman and her brother, Carl Smith. LYONS, Ga. - Mrs. Muriel S. Pittman, age 78, of Lyons (Johnson Corner Community) died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, surrounded by her family in Conyers, Ga. She was a native of Johnson County, living most of her life in the Johnson Corner Community. She was retired from Oxford Manufacturing Company and was a longtime member and supporter of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, an extraordinary woman and a blessing to all who knew her. The most important thing in her life was her family. In March, at the dedication of the "Healing Garden" at Winship Cancer Center, Emory Hospital in Atlanta, a brick was dedicated in her honor. It was engraved - Muriel S. Pittman "Our Hero". Her courage, strength and wisdom will be an inspiration to us all. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Pittman and her brother, Carl Smith. AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dorothy Godbee Phinizy, age 79, died Friday, May 19, 2006 at Heritage Inn in Statesboro. She was born in Sylvania, the daughter of the late Manse Godbee and Annie Mae Hagan Godbee Robertson. She was a 1941 graduate of Sylvania High School and attended the University of Georgia. She left the University of Georgia early, due to the desperate need in WWII (1943) for medical administrative staffing in the VA Hospital in Augusta. She retired as a medical secretary from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta after more than five decades of continuous employment. She was an active member of the Augusta-Richmond County Historical Society and a member of Sylvania First Baptist Church. She was a devoted daughter and very supportive of her mother who preceded her in death at the age of 92. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Dr. Vernon H. Robertson. Survivors include first cousins, Myrtle L. Elder, Milton Lariscy and Lloyd M. Hagan of Sylvania, Linda H. Boykin of Newington, Daniel V. Hagan of Macon; several second cousins.
