He was retired forester and a warehouseman. LYONS, Ga. - Mrs. Muriel S. Pittman, age 78, of Lyons (Johnson Corner Community) died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, surrounded by her family in Conyers, Ga. She was a native of Johnson County, living most of her life in the Johnson Corner Community. She was retired from Oxford Manufacturing Company and was a longtime member and supporter of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, an extraordinary woman and a blessing to all who knew her. The most important thing in her life was her family. In March, at the dedication of the "Healing Garden" at Winship Cancer Center, Emory Hospital in Atlanta, a brick was dedicated in her honor. It was engraved - Muriel S. Pittman "Our Hero". Her courage, strength and wisdom will be an inspiration to us all. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Pittman and her brother, Carl Smith. She was a native of Johnson County, living most of her life in the Johnson Corner Community. She was retired from Oxford Manufacturing Company and was a longtime member and supporter of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, an extraordinary woman and a blessing to all who knew her. The most important thing in her life was her family. In March, at the dedication of the "Healing Garden" at Winship Cancer Center, Emory Hospital in Atlanta, a brick was dedicated in her honor. It was engraved - Muriel S. Pittman "Our Hero". Her courage, strength and wisdom will be an inspiration to us all. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Pittman and her brother, Carl Smith. Wilson was a native of Augusta, Ga. and a graduate of T.W. Josey High School and was presently serving in the U.S. Army. Films that cause tongues to wag are not unusual
Before one frame was shown, The Da Vinci Code, a cinematic adaptation of the Dan Brown novel, attracted controversy. The film and book were denounced by church leaders as blasphemous, and Mr. Brown was charged with (and acquitted of) plagiarism in England. So strong were feelings surrounding the story that the film crew was unable to shoot at some of the novel's more notable locations, including Westminster Abbey.
