George Ashmore   (MARTINEZ, Ga.)
MARTINEZ, Ga. - George Hudson Ashmore, 71, of Martinez, passed away early Saturday, 13 May, at his residence. Mr. Ashmore was a native of Brunswick, GA, living there from 1934 until his graduation from Glynn Academy in 1952. He later resided on St. Simons Island, GA, from 1997 to 2002. He received an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1957, and later a Master's degree in physics from UCLA. Following graduation, Mr. Ashmore worked for the Martin Corporation in Florida, where he designed a part in a rocket that entered space. He moved to California to work for the Hughes Aircraft Corporation, and then accepted a position with the International Telephone & Telegraph (ITT) Corporation, where he worked the rest of his career, serving as President of several ITT companies, and retiring in 1991 as a corporate vice-president in charge of a multinational group of ITT companies. He was an avid sailor and held private pilot and flight instructor licenses for several years. Hetraveled extensively for business and pleasure, visiting Germany, Japan, Kenya, Tanzania, Syria, Egypt, France, Austria and England. He lived at various times in Mesa, AZ, Oriental, NC, Roanoke, VA, Fort Wayne, IN, Irving, CA, Chandler, AZ and Prescott, AZ. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy (Lowe) Ashmore, also a native of Brunswick; three daughters, Suzanne Ashmore of Martinez, GA, Stacy Cole of Evans, GA, and Joanne Rodriguez of Gilbert, AZ; two sons, LeeAshmore of Columbia, MD, and James Ashmore of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Arthur (Clifford) Ashmore of Brunswick; and seven grandchildren (Jessica, Justine, David Jr., Rebecca, Hailey, Ashley, and Christopher).
