COLUMBIA, S.C. - Cheyne Hurst hit a three-run homer in the second to give the Gamecocks the lead and all the runs they would need to beat Tennessee 9-2 Sunday in Southeastern Conference action.
South Carolina (34-18, 14-13 SEC) also got two RBIs from Michael Campbell.
Tennessee (30-21, 11-15) got a freebie as two hit batters loaded the bases in the sixth and Jeff Jeffords walked the first batter he faced in relief, giving the Vols their first run. Kelly Edmundson knocked in the second run on a sacrifice fly.
Will Atwood (4-1) struck out five in 5 1/3 innings to take the win. Josh Lindblom (4-6) gave up 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.
