I read Editorial Page Editor Michael Ryan's recent column about antibiotics ("Medical attitudes are enough to make you sick," April 30) hoping to see support for recommendations published widely by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and other national organizations that have worked so hard to stop the rampant inappropriate use of antibiotics for viral infections such as colds, flu, and acute bronchitis.

Since then, the United States and other countries have observed the second Sunday in May as a day to show respect and admiration for the women who have undertaken the lifetime responsibility of raising and nurturing children, often alone.
