During the Korean Conflict, he was attached to the 3rd Infantry Division, 39th Field Artillery. Following retirement from the military in 1965, he worked for the postal service for 18 years. Jim was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection where he regularly assisted in the soup kitchen; actively participated in the Older Adults Program and the Pacesetters Sunday School Class, as well as other charitable organizations. Jim belonged to the American Legion - Jack. C. Fortune Post 205, where he was Past Commander. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Richmond Lodge #412 F&AM, and a Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a member of the Clarence Cohen Chapter No. 162 of National Sojourners, Inc., VFW Post 649, North Augusta Country Club, the Audubon Society and was a Master Gardner. During her first year there, she met her husband, Jim and they were married for 44 years until his death in 1983. Mrs. Cavan taught Latin at R.E. Lee Institute in Thomaston for several years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston where she taught the Alec Teal Sunday School Class. EVANS, Ga. - Martina Allen Clark of Evans, GA passed away on May 11, 2006 at her residence. She was the wife of the late John Gordon Clark, Jr., who passed away in 1997. She was the daughter of the late Hazel Strickland and the late J. Elvin Sleister and the late William Henry Allen. She was born in Augusta, GA and lived her entire life in Augusta and Evans. Martina was known for many years as 'The Tupperware Lady', as she was one of the first dealers in Georgia. Later, she with her husband, owned the Tupperware franchise for a large portion of Georgia. She retired after 10 years, with many accolades and awards. In 1975, she came out of retirement to open, with her daughters, Martina's Flowers and Gifts. She was an astute businesswoman and worked tirelessly, with her children, to build Martina's into one of the largest florists in the Southeast. She retired again in 1992 and spent the rest of her years serving others. She was very active in the ministries of her church, West Acres Baptist, and for a number of years cooked meals for the L.O.T.S. Ministry in Augusta. She was a remarkable Southern lady, who loved her Lord, her family and her church and served them faithfully her entire life. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah C. Partridge (John), of Evans, Cynthia C. AUGUSTA, Ga. - Retired Army Sergeant and a proud member of "The Greatest Generation", James (Jim) D. Hensley, entered into rest on May 11, 2006, at Portsbridge Hospice Center, Augusta. He leaves cherished memories with his wife of almost 60 years, Sigrid Hensley; son and daughter-in-law, Walt and Carol Hensley of Roswell, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Clark Yarbrough of Carlisle, PA; grandson, Trent Hensley of Atlanta, GA; and granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Nicole and Adam Goerge of Charlottesville, VA Jim was a native of Murphy, NC. As a career military soldier and Ranger, he was a veteran of WWII. He served in the 100th Division, 398th Infantry Regiment, Anti Tank Company, entering the European Theater in France where he was awarded the Bronze Star. During the Korean Conflict, he was attached to the 3rd Infantry Division, 39th Field Artillery. Following retirement from the military in 1965, he worked for the postal service for 18 years. Jim was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection where he regularly assisted in the soup kitchen; actively participated in the Older Adults Program and the Pacesetters Sunday School Class, as well as other charitable organizations. Jim belonged to the American Legion - Jack. C. Fortune Post 205, where he was Past Commander. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Richmond Lodge #412 F&AM, and a Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a member of the Clarence Cohen Chapter No. 162 of National Sojourners, Inc., VFW Post 649, North Augusta Country Club, the Audubon Society and was a Master Gardner. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where he was a charter member of the Stillwell Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Forty and Eight Local Voiture # 1177 and a retired paint contractor. Mr. Lowe was the oldest active member of the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post # 71. For many years Mr. Lowe attended the local area football games and was known as "Gramps" to many of the youth. He was passionate about his garden and loved to share the fruits of his labor with friends and family. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Charlotte Parker Lowe; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Otto Frei, North Augusta; four grandchildren, Kim Padgett, Shannon Maddox, Rhonda Baker and Brad Frei; eight great grandchildren. She graduated with a B.A. and she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Omega Sorority. During her first year there, she met her husband, Jim and they were married for 44 years until his death in 1983. Mrs. Cavan taught Latin at R.E. Lee Institute in Thomaston for several years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston where she taught the Alec Teal Sunday School Class.
