HEPHZIBAH, Ga. -Entered into rest Saturday April 29, 2006 at her residence Dr. Elna Anne Lombard age 88. She was the daughter of the late Roswell Harmon and Anne Schmidt Lombard. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 3, 2006 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection with Rev. David Hunter and Rev. Charles Koons officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. Lombard was a native and life long residence of Augusta, GA. She graduated from Tubman High School in 1932 and after that attended Augusta Junior College and won a part-time teaching scholarship at Shorter College in Rome, GA then completing her bachelor's degree at Peabody College in Nashville, TN with a dual major and dual minor in 1937. She returned to Augusta and taught at Tubman High School for three years, during which she earned her pilot license. Dr. Lombard then joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1942 and was discharged as a Captain in 1946. An encounter with an army chaplain began her life-long walk with Christ. Using the GI Bill she did graduate work in physiology at the University of Wisconsin receiving a M.S. and PH.D. Returning again to Augusta she held a research position with the Medical College of Georgia after completing the requirements she was awarded her M.D. She was then offered a career residence in psychiatry and in 1964 became the Director of Mental Health Center in Aiken serving until 1979. After serving as the Director of Mental Health Center in Augusta she began a private practice in her home in Hepzibah. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, the Green Meadows Golf Club, Georgia State Ladies Golf Association, Georgia Seniors Ladies Golf Association, Georgia Senior Couples Golf Association, and was a former Georgia Ladies and Senior Ladies Champion and Past President of all the above. Dr. Lombard was a member of the American Legion Post #205 Augusta and the Augusta Green Jackets Diamond Club. She was a life member of the American Psychiatric Association and past president and member of numerous veteran and other professional medical associations. Survivors include her dear companion for 47 years, Ms. Margaret Holley, Hepzibah; cousin Kay S. Odell her husband William, Winter Park, FL; special friends, Rev. Mrs. Mary Muns Friedman Bellino, a native of Jackson, S.C. was the daughter of Robert Lee & Fannie Bell Muns. She was an Augusta resident for many years after marrying Steve Friedman in 1961 and she served as President of St. Joseph Hospital Ladies Auxiliary from 1995-1997. Mrs. Friedman-Bellino was an active member of Congregation Children of Israel's Sisterhood and she and Mr. Friedman served as youth advisors of the Congregational Children of Israel for many years. She, together with Mr. Friedman, were avid supporters of the Augusta Green Jackets, the Augusta Boxing Club, and the Augusta Youth Center. After Steve Friedman's death in July 2001, she enjoyed being with her many friends of First Baptist Church of Augusta, as well as traveling on church sponsored trips with them. Several years after the death of Mr. Friedman, Mary married Joseph A. Bellino. They enjoyed living and traveling together until his death in March of 2005. She was a very caring, spiritual, and generous person to all those in need--the epitome of a true Southern lady. Nothing pleased Mary more than helping and giving to others. EVANS, Ga. - Hazel J. Moore entered into rest Tuesday May 2, 2006 at her daughter's residence. Miss Moore was one of the first women from Georgia to serve her country in the Women's Army Corps. She also was the first women to be employed as a switchman with Southern Bell where she retired after 35 years of service. Miss Moore also served her community where she was a frequent donor at Shepeard Community Blood Center. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and also The Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Frances Patricia Toole, 77, passed away May 1, 2006 at University Hospital in Augusta. Mrs. Toole was the daughter of the late James Dayton King and the late Winifred Marcella Hernandez King of Jacksonville, FL. A graveside service for family members will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, May 6, 2006. Mrs. Toole was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. In 1947, she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy where she was on the basketball team and served as its manager and where she participated in the School Choir, Glee Club and Sodality. While residing in Jacksonville Mrs. Toole was a parishioner at St. Matthews Catholic Church and she worked at the Community Chest. EVANS, Ga. - Hazel J. Moore entered into rest Tuesday May 2, 2006 at her daughter's residence. Miss Moore was one of the first women from Georgia to serve her country in the Women's Army Corps. She also was the first women to be employed as a switchman with Southern Bell where she retired after 35 years of service. Miss Moore also served her community where she was a frequent donor at Shepeard Community Blood Center. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and also The Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lt. Col. Thomas Eugene Miller Sr., U.S. Army, Retired, entered into rest April 26, 2006 at his residence. Lt. Col. Miller, born in Chattanooga, TN, served during the Vietnam conflict and after retiring from the service was a counselor for University Health Systems. Memorial services will be held at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel, Friday, May 5, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. with Chaplain (Cpt.) Jeffrey Militti officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the ceremonial detachment of Ft. Gordon, Ga. Survivors include his sons, Thomas Anthony Miller, Augusta, Ga., Jeffrey Alan (Jennifer) Miller, Martinez, Ga. and Eric Brian (Telina) Miller of North Augusta, S.C. and their mother, Annmarie Licata Miller; grandchildren, Aedan Miller, Levi Miller and Benjamin Miller and sister, Jean (Frank) Scoggins.
