Boycott could backfire in long term
Letter to the Editor
Tuesday, May 02, 2006

This May 1 "No Gringo Day" boycott could bring havoc to Mexicans that are in the United States legally, and are operating their businesses and being good Americans. The same is true for all the others from the Central American countries that want to keep a low profile and work to have a life of their own within the established laws of the United States.

If all American citizens decide to take revenge on these Hispanic business people - and stop any and all purchases with them, as they attempted to do to naturalized citizens May 1 - then these Hispanic businesses could be in a world of hurt over the long haul.

Are there enough Hispanics available in this area to support their businesses without regular, home-grown American citizens?

Bill Adams, North Augusta, S.C.
