SAN ROQUE, Spain - Niclas Fasth made a 6-foot birdie putt on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff Sunday to beat John Bickerton at the Spanish Open.
Fasth almost lost the title in regulation. The Swede led by two strokes with two holes remaining but bogeyed the 17th and 18th for a 69 to drop into the playoff against England's Bickerton, who shot a course record-equaling 63. The pair finished at 18-under 270.
Six players shared third place. Gary Orr, Mattias Eliasson and Phillip Archer each shot 67, joining Jose Manuel Lara (68), Thomas Bjorn (69) and third-round leader David Griffiths of England (72) at one behind the leaders in regulation.
