Collision kills North Augustan
A 43-year-old North Augusta man died in a two-vehicle accident on South Carolina Highway 125 on Saturday afternoon, authorities with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The accident happened a half mile south of U.S. Highway 1 at 3:56 p.m., when a man driving a 2004 Nissan pickup north on Highway 125 lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by Max Hinton of Tolono, Ill., Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson said.
The driver of the pickup, Kelvin Floyd, of the 1300 block of Atomic Road in North Augusta, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, but the air bag deployed, Lance Cpl. Robinson said. Mr. Hinton, 69, was not injured, Lance Cpl. Robinson said.
Man says neighbor shot him in his knee
Police found a North Augusta man lying in a front yard with a gunshot wound to his left knee, according to a North Augusta Department of Public Safety incident report.
Manuel Sanchez, 23, was walking home when the shooting occurred at 2:38 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Metz Drive, the report said.
His neighbor pulled up alongside him in a white Jeep Cherokee and started firing shots at him, then drove away, the report said.
Police say stabbed man knew attacker
An acquaintance stabbed a man twice at about 1 a.m. Saturday, a report from the North Augusta Department of Public Safety said.
Alicia Rhoden, 18, told police she and her boyfriend were leaving a home in the 800 block of Yardley Drive when they encountered an acquaintance.
The man asked them, "What's up?" and then struck her boyfriend, Terrance Sentell Sims, 23, twice, the report said.
Mr. Sims felt a sharp pain and then realized that he had been stabbed, the report said. He ran down the street to get away from his attacker then drove to University Hospital in his girlfriend's car.
He had cuts on his right arm and right rear shoulder, the report said.
Driver says gunshots followed argument
A motorist told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that someone fired a gun at him several times.
The man said that he was driving down Second Street near Bolt Street at 11:31 p.m. Friday but that the street was blocked by several people standing in the middle of the roadway, the report said.
When he told them to move, a man in the group walked over and began arguing with him.
As the driver tried to leave, the man pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds at his car, a sheriff's report said.
Pupils are accused of tossing item from bus
Two complaints were filed Friday against pupils on a school bus, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.
The Richmond County school bus was traveling westbound on Wrightsboro Road near North Leg Road at 4:53 p.m. Friday, the report said, when children threw an unknown object from the bus. The object struck one car, bounced and struck a second car.
The object chipped the front windshield of the first car, the report said.
$1 can of sardines is taken from store
At about 6 p.m. Friday, a man stuffed a can of sardines in his back pocket and walked out of the Circle K at 2855 Washington Road, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.
The can of sardines was valued at $1.
