Student kicks door, is charged with burglary
ATHENS - A University of Georgia student was arrested while trying to kick in the door of an apartment, according to police.
A resident of Woodstone Apartments called police at about 4:30 a.m. Friday, saying someone was trying to kick in the door. Officers arrived and arrested Matthew Chase Land, 20, who police said was extremely intoxicated.
Mr. Land told police he was trying to get inside to see his friends but had the wrong apartment. He was charged with attempted burglary.
Pennsylvania woman dies in wreck on I-95
SAVANNAH - A Pennsylvania woman died early Saturday after she lost control of her car on Interstate 95 just south of Georgia Highway 204.
The 26-year-old woman was driving north on I-95 shortly after midnight when she attempted to change lanes and lost control, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Lt. Mike Wilkins said.
The woman's 2006 Ford Focus left the road and struck a tree, Lt. Wilkins said.
Paramedics took the woman and her male passenger to Memorial Health University Medical Center. The woman was pronounced dead at Memorial, Lt. Wilkins said. The passenger was treated and released.
Woman fights police while holding child
SAVANNAH - A 30-year-old woman is in jail after she tried to fight officers while holding her 2-month-old son.
Police were called to a shelter to investigate a report of possible child neglect, according to a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police report.
Officers summoned paramedics after seeing a 2-month-old boy suffering from dehydration. But when paramedics tried to treat the baby, his mother, Aasiya Ali Williams, became aggressive, the report says.
Officers and paramedics eventually were able to free the infant and arrested the mother.
