David E. Shirley (BELTON, S.C.)



BELTON, S.C. - David E. Shirley, Sr. passed away Thursday April 6, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Ernest and Ruth Shirley of Belton S.C. He is survived by wife, Yvonne Robertson Shirley; sons, David E. Shirley Jr. and wife, LaDaina, of Moss Bluff, LA, Brian J. Shirley and wife, Catherine of Charlotte, NC and daughter, Elizabeth Shirley Phares of Charlotte, NC. David has 5 grandchildren and 1 granddaughter-in-law. Dustin B. Shirley, USMC and wife Misty, USAF, Grant M. Shirley US NAVY, Katie-Love Shirley, CoDi Shirley and Jon Henry Phares. He leaves behind one Sister, Mary Francis Spence of Augusta, GA. David graduated Belton High School Class of 1955 and attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. He served in the USAF from 1955-1959 as a Dental Technician at Chenault Air Force Base. David was a Real Estate owner, broker agent, teacher and mentor serving SW La for over 20 years. After retiring from Vista Chemicalsin 1996, David and Yvonne returned to SC where he was elected Mayor and honorably served the people of Belton for 3 Ú years. In Louisiana, David coached football at S.P. Arnett Jr. High, Sheriff's League Baseball and recreation football. He also officiated high school and recreation football. His life passions included, spending time with family and grandchildren, LSU football and shagging on the beach. He was also a master cross-word puzzler. A Memorial Service will be held at Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church LMUMC at 200 River Street, Belton, S.C. 29627 on Monday April 10th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Susan Culler officiating. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will be at the residence.
