The second annual Alleluia Glory Run 5K will be held Saturday in the Alleluia Community.
Last year "was a big success. It was really fun," said Rachel Balducci, who is a member of the run committee.
What made the event special was the family participation, she said. In addition to the 5K race, there is a one-mile fun run and a tot trot.
"Parents had their jogging strollers, and parents ran with the children, especially in the one-mile fun run," she said.
The race course travels through the streets of the Alleluia Community in south Augusta.
Mrs. Balducci said there would be a police escort for the runners, and the streets would be blocked off during the race for safety reasons.
The race is not just for those in the Alleluia Community. Last year, area running clubs participated, she said.
New this year is a military category, offering reduced entry rates and a Soldier's Best Time award.
"We wanted to give soldiers the opportunity to participate," she said.
"Here off Peach Orchard Road, we are not far from Fort Gordon, and this is a natural way to be involved with them."
The 5K race will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the one-mile race and tot trot at 9 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, and for first, second and third place in all age categories for the 5K and one-mile run. First, second and third place in the tot trot will receive prizes.
