WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Preston L. Purvis, 74, died Saturday March 25, 2006 at the Medical College of Georgia after a short illness. Mr. Purvis was a native of Tatnall County, Georgia. He retired from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and he also served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Waynesboro United Methodist Church, where he was involved with the Mens Club. He was a member of the Police Officers Association of Georgia. He graduated from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Academy and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Academy in Washington, D.C.. Family will receive friends in the Chapel at Deloach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro Monday March 27, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 28, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro, with Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating, with Dr. David Carter and Rev. Henry Irvin assisting. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens. Preston is survived by two sons James Purvis, Sylvania, Dennis Sapp, Waynesboro; three daughters Eva Marie Everson, Orlando, Florida, Mary DeLaigle, Sylvania, and Martha Dungan, Louisana; two brothers Clarence Purvis, Glennville, and Vondes Purvis, Savannah; one sister Audrey DeLoach, West Monroe, Louisana; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Robert Williford, Rodney Braswell, Ted Perkins, Wendell Barefield, Bob Bolton and Bill Hargrove. Family asked that contributions be made to First United Methodist Church Building fund or the American Cancer Society.
