BARNWELL, S.C. - Philip Jasper Hiers, Jr., died Sunday March 26, 2006 at his home. Mr. Hiers was born in Dunbarton, S.C. and was the son of the late Philip Jasper Hiers and the late Mary Irene Strom Hiers. He was a graduate of Barnwell High School, attended the Citadel and graduated from Augusta Business College. He was an army veteran and a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church. He and his father opened the City Loan Company, a business that he managed for over fifty years. He loved golf, fishing, and fish frys. Philip touched the lives of his family and friends with his wonderful zest for life. He will be loved and missed by all. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Barnwell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Posey Belcher and Dr. Steve Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery at the airport. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday evening at Mole Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenville, S.C. 29648, or to the Barnwell First Baptist Church, "Arise and Build" Fund, 161 Allen St., Barnwell, S.C., 29812. Pallbeares will be Guy Dobson, Gary Brantley, Johnny George, Sonny Broadway, P.F. Beck, Jr., Rivers Johnson, Ralph Jones, and Keith Maddox. Survivors include his wife; Lib F. Hiers of Barnwell; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Arder Grubbs of Barnwell; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Shirley Funderburk of Blackville, S.C.; daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Funderburk, of Atlanta, Holly and Gary Plyle of Summerville; nephew, Philip C.
