AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. John R. "Jack" King, age 76, entered into rest on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospice. Mr. King was born November 10, 1929 to the late John R. King, Sr. and Harriette M. King in Wilmington, DE. Mr. King was an Eagle Scout and enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard at the young age of 16. He later joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country for 23 years retiring to Augusta in 1974. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving with the Signal Corp. Mr. King was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Betty F. King. Survivors include his wife of just ten months, Patricia Cook King; two sons: Jeffery H. King and his wife, Kelly, and Keith A. King, all of Augusta; one daughter: Gail King Johnson and her husband, Mike of Martinez; four grandchildren: Jeffery "Herb" King, Jr. and his wife, Genny, William "Billy" King, Dustin Angel and Jayme Angel; three sisters: Patricia A. Lacey of Mechanicsville, VA, Sarah "Boots" Wilson of Bear, DE, and Ethel J. Reesey of Fort Myers, FL and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mr. King was a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church in Evans, GA and was a Mason. In his younger years he was an avid bowler and later took up golf. He will be most remembered as a loving father who sometimes worked three jobs to provide for his family, and a loving, dedicated husband who loved to travel with his wife, Pat, and a fun loving brother, friend, and "Pop-Pop". Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road, with the Revs. Kirk Bozeman and Chip Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Memorials may be made, if desired, to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Rd., Suite F-104, Augusta, GA 30904. The family would like to thank the doctors and caring nurses on 11 West at EisenhowerHospital for everything they did to keep our "Jack", dad, Pop-Pop, comfortable in his last days.
