BROUSSARD, La. - Johnson Wagner won his first Nationwide Tour title Sunday, birdieing the final hole for a 4-under 67 and a one-stroke victory over Chad Collins in the Louisiana Open - the first event of the tour's 28-event North American schedule.
Wagner finished with a 12-under 272 total on the Le Triomphe Country Club. The 26-year-old former Washington & Lee player earned $90,000.
"This was a long time coming, but I felt like I could do it," Wagner said. "I was nervous all day and I was wondering if I could make it around the whole course, but my caddie kept me focused and I did it."
Collins shot his third straight 68.
Cliff Kresge (68) and Franklin Langham (70) tied for third at 10 under, and Chris Smith (66) and Matt Weibring (68) followed at 9 under.
