Clemson sweeps N.C. State



CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson starter Stephen Faris pitched eight scoreless innings to lead Clemson to a 6-2 win over North Carolina State on Sunday.

Tyler Colvin was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Tigers (16-6, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who swept the three-game series from the Wolfpack (21-8, 5-4 ACC).

Aaron Bates was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs for N.C. State

Clemson led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Herman Demmink grounded to short, but Bates dropped the throw at first base and two runs scored.

The Tigers scored again in the fifth, sixth and eight to take a 6-0 lead.

In the ninth, Bates' homer off Clemson reliever Steve Richard with one out cut the Tigers lead to 6-2. The Wolfpack would get one more runner on, but Richard got the final two outs to end the game.

Faris (2-0) allowed four hits and struck out five to get the win.

N.C. State starter Andrew Brackman (0-2) allowed eight hits and four runs, two of them earned, striking out five and walking four to pick up the loss.
