LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - Zelma M. Milbourn-Whitaker, 84, of Leavenworth, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006, with her family by her side at the Cushing Memorial Hospital. She was born the daughter of Thomas and Debbie (Huff) Roberts on July 22, 1921, in Cameron, Mo. She married Jewell D. Milbourn in 1938 in St. Joseph, Mo. He passed away in 1960. She married George R. Whitaker in 1981 in Harlem. He passed away in 1984. Zelma had worked as an assistant manager of the Cody Hotel in Leavenworth and had managed the Russell's Restaurant at the Landing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leavenworth and a past member of the Powell Baptist Church of Harlem. Zelma moved back to Leavenworth in 1985, after living in Harlem for four years. She loved cooking, working in the garden and had been very active in her church. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy A. White-Bennett and husband, Jack, Harlem; sons, Ronald Milbourn, Basehor, Kan., and BillMilbourn and wife, Gloria, Leavenworth County; sister, Georgia Christian, Panora, Iowa; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Her parents, husbands, Jewell Milbourn and George Whitaker; and brothers, Murl Robert and J.D. Roberts, all preceded her in death. A visitation will be held Monday, March 13, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, 500 Oak St., (913)682-1614. Services officiated by Rev. Randall Terrill will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
