PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Mrs. Sammie Joe Orr, 84, departed this life on March 4, 2006, at Lankenau Medical Center in Philadelphia. The funeral services will be March 11, 2006, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia at 11 a.m. Interment will be in New Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Alexander, Ga., at 1 p.m. on March 15, 2006. Mrs. Orr was born in Savannah, Ga., to the late Luther and Josie B. Cooper. She was a 1946 graduate of Beach High School in Savannah and had been a resident of Philadelphia for over 50 years. For several years, she worked with her husband who owned and operated an Exxon Service Station in South Philadelphia. For 15 years, she served diligently in the Philadelphia School District Food Service Department, retiring in June 1999. Mr. Orr, her husband, preceded her in death. She served faithfully in the Senior and Memorial Choirs and the White Rose Ministry as a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia under the pastorate ofRev. Willie E. Robinson. Mrs. Orr is survived by cousins, Catherine Baker, Elizabeth Brown and Mildred Ponder, all of Savannah, Ga.; and a host of other relatives and friends; special friends, Lawrence Bennett, Margaret Crutchfield and Ruby Wallace, all of Philadelphia, Geneva Chavous of Greenville, S.C., Rosa Trudell and Amelia Jones, both of Savannah; and goddaughter, Karin Woodlard of Philadelphia.
