NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Funeral Services for Mrs. Alma L. Herndon, 96, of Delaughter Drive, North Augusta, SC, who died March 8, 2006, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Macedonia United Methodist Church, Hartwell, Georgia. Rev. Martha Dye officiating. Interment in the Macedonia Cemetery. Mrs. Herndon was a native of McCormick, SC, a former resident of Hartwell, Georgia, having made the Augusta-North Augusta area her home for the past 70 years. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and the Eakes Sunday School Class. Mrs. Herndon was the first woman buyer of men's clothing in the Belk Store's organization and retired after 40 years of service as a division manager at Belk in Daniel Village. She was the wife of the late Mr. Parker Watkin Herndon and mother of the late William Lee Herndon. Mrs. Herndon enjoyed her work and had love for and interest in the people she met. The family expresses deep appreciation to Betty andDonald Ayers in whose personal care home she resided. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jack W. and Mamie Herndon, North Augusta; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Herndon, Augusta; a sister, Alene L. Silvers, McCormick, SC; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Thursday evening from 6 to 8. Mrs. Herndon will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, P.O.
