NEW YORK - USA Network is psyched about its wacky new crime series.
The cable network has ordered 11 episodes of "Psych," a one-hour dramedy about an amateur sleuth who tricks the police into believing he's a psychic.
"It isn't easy to create a drama infused with comedy, and 'Psych' just knocks it out of the park," Jeff Wachtel, the network's executive vice president of original programming, said in a statement.
"Psych" is tentatively scheduled to premiere July 7 at 10 p.m. (EST) following "Monk," which stars Emmy-winner Tony Shalhoub as an obsessive-compulsive San Francisco detective, network representative Sarah Carragher told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
James Roday ("The Dukes of Hazzard") will star as detail-oriented Shawn Spencer, who possesses uncanny powers of observation honed by his police officer father, Henry, played by Corbin Bernsen ("L.A. Law").
Shawn begins sleuthing for the police with the reluctant help of his best friend, Gus, played by Dule Hill ("The West Wing").
