AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Leonard M. Tuggle, Jr., (Len), beloved husband of thirty-six years to Prudence B. Tuggle, entered into rest on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Portsbridge Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Platt's Crawford Ave. Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Jacob O. Malone officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park with military honors. Additional survivors include a son, Claiborne Ford Tuggle(Clay) of Martinez; three sisters, Kathryn T. Paschal of Evans, GA., Patricia T. Stephens and husband, Andrew of Augusta, GA. and Alice T. Spivey of Hephzibah, GA.; two brother in laws, William D. Bowmar, Jr. and wife, Karen and Ronald B. Bowmar and wife, Doris all of Altamonte Springs, FL.; a sister in law, Mary Lou Bartkowiak and husband, David of Atlanta, GA. A native of Chicago, IL., Mr. Tuggle was educated in Augusta public schools at John Milledge, Tubman and Academy of Richmond County, where he played football on the Region Championship 1962 team. He then graduated from University of South Carolina and Woodrow Wilson Law School. Len was a veteran of the Vietnam era serving three years in the United States Army. He then joined the South Carolina National Guard, retiring as a Major in 1992. and served as Commander of the 263rd Air Defense Artillery Unit in Anderson, SC. Len practiced law in the Augusta area since 1982, recently closing his private practice and going to work for the Public Defender's Office, Augusta Judicial Circuit, working with Judge Wheale. Len was loved by many and respected by everyone whose path he crossed. He loved history, politics and telling "war" stories, Len also loved studying the civil war and kept a large library of civil war history books he reread many times. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his son and friends. Len loved his family and treasured his times with each of them. Len was a member ofthe South Carolina National Guard Association, the Georgia State Bar Association, the Augusta Bar Association, Boy Scouts of America, Augusta Council, where he served as Past Chairman of the Kiokee District, West Lake Country Club, West Lake Property Owners Association, Georgia Republican Party, the United States Golf Association and was a past president of Safe Homes, Inc. Active pallbearers will be Don Evans, Tom Cook, Brett McGuire, Honorable Duncan Wheale, David Weber, Preston Sizemore, Sam Sibley and Joe Riddle. Honorary pallbearers will be the Augusta Bar Association and the Public Defender's Office, Augusta Judicial Circuit.
