Teen is charged in 2 shootings, one death

ROCK HILL - Police have charged a Clover teen with murder in the death of another teen.

Berry Bolin, 19, was charged Monday in the death of 19-year-old Bobby Royce Hovis III of Lake Wylie. Mr. Bolin also is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in the shooting of 26-year-old Travis Falls.

Mr. Hovis was shot in the back of the head and died Sunday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Falls was treated and released from the same hospital for a gunshot wound to the wrist.

Witnesses said they heard yelling and several shots just before midnight Saturday as Mr. Hovis and Mr. Falls drove away with another passenger.

York County sheriff's Capt. Jerry Hoffman said he doesn't think Mr. Hovis or his passengers fired any shots.

Prolific robber isn't suspect in bank heist

GREER - A Spartanburg man who police say has confessed to robbing 17 banks across the state is no longer the focus of the investigation into a Greer bank robbery that left three people dead three years ago.

Lennell Dyches, 34, was arrested Jan. 12, minutes after Greenwood County deputies said he robbed a Greenwood bank.

Investigators said Mr. Dyches later confessed to robbing 17 banks in 11 counties over five years, starting in April 2000.

But police said Monday that investigators have determined Mr. Dyches was "no longer a primary focus" in the Greer robbery.

Teen is charged with killing over card game

FORT LAWN - An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his cousin in a dispute over a card game, sheriff's deputies said.

Theron Lee Crawford, 38, died Sunday after being shot several times.

Demarcus Foster got into a tussle with his cousin during a card game at Mr. Foster's home, according to a sheriff's report.

Mr. Crawford was shot with a .38-caliber pistol and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Moore's sold; stores to become Peebles

FLORENCE - The Cheraw-based department store chain B.C. Moore's is being bought by Stage Stores Inc. of Houston for $37 million.

B.C. Moore's has 32 stores in South Carolina.

Stage Stores Inc. owns the Peebles store chain in addition to the Stage, Bealls and Palais Royal stores.

Most of the stores will be remodeled, restocked and reopened as Peebles stores, officials said.

The grand openings of the newly converted Peebles stores will begin in July.
