The 2006 USDA Summer Feeding Program for Children will accept site applications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday, March 1, at the main office of the Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, 902 Vaucluse Road.
Eleemosynary will be performed by the Aiken Community Playhouse at 8 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 126 Newberry St. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 nonmembers. Call 648-1438.
A tasteful event
The third annual Taste of North Augusta will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the North Augusta Community Center, 101 Brookside Drive. The event, a fundraiser for the Center for Care and Counseling, will feature silent and live auctions and food prepared by local celebrities. Tickets - $40 per person or $300 for corporate tables of eight - are available at Parks Pharmacy, 437 Georgia Ave., North Augusta; CommuniGraphics, 1400 Georgia Ave.; Jim Bush Florist, 501 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta; and The Center for Care and Counseling, 625 Georgia Ave, North Augusta.
Battle of Aiken
The Battle of Aiken will be held Saturday and Sunday at Confederate Memorial Park on Powell Pond Road in Aiken. All presentations will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Battle re-enactments will begin at 2 p.m. Campsites will be available for touring and period crafts will be available for purchase. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students ages 6-18. Children 5 and younger will be admitted free.
Dancing with dad
Girls Inc. and WRDW (Channel 12) will present the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Park Activities Center, 101 Riverview Park Drive, North Augusta. The dance will include a disc jockey, dinner, table favors, a photographer and prizes. Tickets are $50 per couple and $15 for each additional daughter.
The annual South Aiken High School Athletic Booster Club Auction will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Conference Center, 215 The Alley. There will be heavy hors d'oeuvres provided by Up Your Alley and a cash bar. Auction items include golf packages, jewelry, furs, grills and wine packages The event costs $30 per person. Proceeds will benefit South Aiken athletics. Attendees must be at least 21. Call 648-4331
An art exhibit by Ray Davenport will be shown from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 1-30 in the lower gallery of the Etherredge Center, 471 University Parkway. Admission is free. The gallery is open Monday-Friday.
