Pickup hits man crossing road

An Augusta man was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital on Saturday after he was struck by a pickup while he tried to cross Belair Road near Wheeler Road in Columbia County.

Trevis Rhyne, 21, of the 1400 block of Ridgewood Drive, was discharged before 4 p.m. Saturday, MCG spokeswoman Deborah Humphrey said.

Mr. Rhyne was hit by a white Dodge Ram pickup driven by James Hart, of Grovetown, at about 12:30 p.m., Columbia County sheriff's Deputy Mike Barrett said.

Mr. Hart was traveling north on Belair Road in front of Marvin United Methodist Church when Mr. Rhyne crossed in front of him, Deputy Barrett said. Mr. Rhyne was listed as the party at fault in the incident, and Mr. Hart was not cited, Deputy Barrett said.

County police make several DUI arrests

Richmond County sheriff's deputies charged at least 12 people with driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both early Saturday morning, jail records show.

The following people were arrested:

Richard T. Woodard, 42, of Hephzibah; Jade K. Ealy, 23, of Augusta; Jonathan Michael Botelho, 27, of Lincolnton, Ga.; Dustin Philip Palm, 26, of Augusta; Jarian Devon Calhoun, 19, of Augusta; Isaiah Peter Johnson, 22, of Fort Gordon; Cory Lee Marsh, 24, of Fort Gordon; Justin Brehm, 59, of Martinez; Daniel Edward Blalock, 21, of Hephzibah; Jillian Ashley Walter, 23, of Augusta; Stacy Michelle Hines, 30, of Martinez; and Johnny Lee Bryant, 43, of Augusta.

Most had more charges against them than just DUI. Arrests were made throughout Richmond County, including on Interstate 20, River Watch Parkway, R.A. Dent Boulevard, Peach Orchard Road, Deans Bridge Road and Washington Road.

Woman who lifted dress is arrested

Richmond County sheriff's deputies arrested a woman who flashed them and tried to assault them after the deputies refused to let her go back into a building that was being evacuated for a fire early Saturday, a report states.

Loretta Harris, 50, of the 500 block of Richmond Hill Road West, was charged with felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and public indecency, a jail record states.

The report says that at 12:51 a.m., deputies were at the Cedar Grove apartment complex, evacuating Building M, which was on fire.

Deputies reported that Ms. Harris repeatedly tried to get back into her apartment to get some items. Deputies said she cursed at officers, then lifted her dress.

Deputies tried to get her to lower her dress, but she lay down on the hood of a car and tried to kick and punch them.

Man says he was shot in leg by motorist

An Augusta man told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that he was shot in the leg during a drive-by shooting Friday evening, a police report states.

The 31-year-old man said that at 5:40 p.m., he was standing along the 2200 block of Shirley Avenue with friends, when a man driving a white Ford Mustang talked to one of the friends.

The victim's friend and the man in the car got into an argument, and the motorist pulled out a black gun and fired. The shot missed the friend but hit the victim in the left leg, the report states.

The victim's wife drove him to Medical College of Georgia Hospital for treatment.

Elderly woman says man snatched purse

An elderly Augusta woman told Richmond County sheriff's deputies that someone snatched her purse while she tried to unload groceries from her car Friday night, a police report states.

The 82-year-old said that at 7 p.m., at her home in the 2600 block of Henry Street, a man approached her from behind and snatched a purse that was hanging off her shoulder.

The woman was not injured. Keys, $75, a driver's license, a Social Security card and a Visa card were taken.

Three teens arrested on curfew violations

Richmond County sheriff's deputies arrested three teenagers Saturday morning accused of violating the county's curfew ordinance.

Authorities charged William Leroy Nero, 17, of the 1800 block of Cooney Circle; Reco L. Casey, 17, of the 2000 block of First Avenue; and Marcus J. White, 17, of the 1900 block of Estroff Court, with misdemeanor curfew violation, according to Richmond County jail records.

Police arrested the men in the 1800 block of Cooney Circle at 1:40 a.m.

City law forbids teenagers younger than 18 from being out unsupervised between midnight and 5 a.m.

Glenn Hills student reports theft of $120

A 14-year-old Glenn Hills High student told Richmond County sheriff's deputies two students took $120 in cash from him Friday afternoon at school.

The boy said that while he was walking from his classroom to his bus, one boy grabbed him around the neck and another reached in his pocket and stole the money, according to a sheriff's office incident report.

A witness said she saw the boys running with the money and saw one of them with his hands around the victim's neck.

Woman says purse was stolen at Kroger

An Augusta woman told Richmond County sheriff's deputies someone stole her purse containing $440 in cash Friday at Kroger in the 2800 block of Washington Road.

Stephanie Pelham, 27, told deputies she used a shopping cart to take her groceries to her car at about 5:30 p.m. and noticed her purse was missing.

On Saturday, the store manager told Ms. Pelham her purse was found but it was missing the cash, a sheriff's office report said.

Woman says stranger slapped her in car

A North Augusta woman told Richmond County sheriff's deputies a woman slapped her and threw rocks at her car Friday night.

According to a sheriff's office incident report, the 19-year-old said she was sitting in her vehicle at a red light at 13th and Reynolds streets at about 11:30 p.m.

A stranger approached her car and began cursing at her, the report said. The woman then reached in through the open window and slapped the victim's face.

As the victim drove away, the woman threw rocks at the vehicle, the report said.
