Team gets what Doctors ordered

The Augusta GreenJackets received a shot in the financial arm Monday, announcing the lengthiest corporate partnership in team history with Doctors Hospital of Augusta.

Specific terms of the deal were not released, but the five-year agreement will continue a partnership that began in 2000 through at least the 2010 season.

"The support we have received from the Augusta community has been amazing," said Cal Ripken Jr., CEO of Ripken Baseball, in a prepared statement. "We are proud to call Doctors Hospital our partner and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship. With their support we will be better able to provide a first-rate experience for our fans."

The Ripken Baseball Group finalized the purchase of the GreenJackets in October of 2005.

Doctors Hospital, medical provider for the team, will see an increased presence with the team and at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The partnership is also aimed at community outreach.

"We are already planning fun, healthy events and activities that will benefit GreenJackets fans, youth and the community at large," said Shayne George, president and CEO of Doctors Hospital, in a prepared statement.

"We believe this partnership is a home run."
