Don't trash new ID law

"We don't believe that a utility bill pulled out of a trash can should enable someone to cast a ballot. It's a great step forward for the integrity of our voting process."

- Gov. Sonny Perdue at a signing ceremony for Georgia's new voter photo identification law passed this month. The new law is expected to get U.S. Justice Department approval and will cost would-be voters nothing. It became necessary when last year's law, which would have charged some voters up to $35 for a valid photo, was blocked when a federal judge declared the fee tantamount to a poll tax.
