MIAMI - Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor faces up to 46 years in prison after two additional assault charges were filed against him Friday.
Michael Grieco, an assistant state attorney, said the charges reflect Taylor's alleged threatening of three people with a gun in an armed confrontation over an all-terrain vehicle on June 1.
Taylor, 22, now faces three counts of aggravated assault, each of which carries a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 15 years in prison. He also faces one misdemeanor battery charge that carries a potential one-year prison term.
Trial is scheduled to begin March 20 for Taylor, a former University of Miami star who signed a seven-year, $18 million contract after being drafted by the Redskins in 2004. He has six interceptions and 120 tackles in his two seasons.
CHIEFS: Kansas City quarterback Trent Green was put on the AFC's Pro Bowl roster, replacing injured New England quarterback Tom Brady.
It was the second Pro Bowl selection for Green, who also made the AFC team after the 2003 season.
Green threw for 4,014 yards and 17 touchdowns this past season, completing 62 percent (317-for-502) of his throws.
He finished the year with a 90.1 quarterback rating, his fourth straight 90-plus season. Green is the only active quarterback to do that and only the third in NFL history behind Steve Young and Brett Favre.
The game is scheduled for Feb. 12 in Honolulu.
SAINTS: New Orleans hired former Rams interim coach Joe Vitt as linebackers coach.
New coach Sean Payton also hired Doug Marrone as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, and John Bonamego as special teams coach.
Vitt, who also will carry the title assistant head coach, took over in St. Louis six games into last season after Mike Martz was sidelined for health reasons and ultimately led the Rams to a 6-10 mark.
CHARGERS: Special teams standout Kassim Osgood agreed to a four-year contract with San Diego .
Osgood was one of the AFC's most dominant special teams players last season until he tore a pectoral muscle Dec. 4.
At the time, he was leading the Chargers with 19 tackles on special teams. He finished second behind Hanik Milligan, who had 21.
