DOHA, Qatar - Henrik Stenson shot 4-under-par 68 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead after the second round of the Qatar Masters, and Ernie Els equaled a European Tour record by making the cut for the 69th consecutive time.
Els, who won the Qatar Masters last year in his tournament debut, equaled the mark set by Bernhard Langer. The South African, who shot his second consecutive 71 at the Doha Golf Club, made the cut by three strokes.
Vijay Singh also made the cut, shooting 71 to qualify by a stroke. The world's second-ranked player had five birdies and four bogeys.
Former champion Paul Lawrie (71) and Thongchai Jaidee (69) each had a hole-in-one on the third hole.
Lawrie, who won the Qatar Masters in 1999, hit a 3-iron on the 215-yard hole, while Thongchai hit a 5-iron.
Stenson, at 10-under 134 total, leads Ricardo Gonzalez (69) by one stroke.

Stenson, who finished second in the Abu Dhabi Championship last Sunday, had five birdies Friday.
Gonzalez was tied for the lead after the first round, but dropped back after a 69.
TURTLE BAY CHAMPIONSHIP: In Kahuku, Hawaii, another island, another fantastic round for Loren Roberts.
Fresh off a win at the MasterCard Championship on Kaupulehu, Roberts shot 6-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Bruce Summerhays.
Five-time defending champion Hale Irwin had trouble finding his groove in the Champions Tour's first full-field event of the year. Irwin bogeyed No. 3 and parred the next 14 holes.
Irwin is seeking his sixth straight Turtle Bay title but it was Roberts who continued his strong play in Hawaii.
He sank putt after putt, making the turn at 33 and recording seven birdies, including four in the last seven holes. The 66 was the lowest first-round score on the Palmer Course.
Last year, Irwin held off Dana Quigley by five strokes, winning with a Turtle Bay record 16-under 200. Irwin, who began his streak with a victory at Kaanapali in 2000, became the first player to win a PGA Tour-sanctioned event five straight times.
