ST. LOUIS - Jim Haslett, fired by the New Orleans Saints after six seasons as head coach, on Tuesday was named defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams.

Greg Olsen was hired as offensive coordinator. He spent the past two seasons with Detroit, first as quarterbacks coach then as co-offensive coordinator.

Both will work under new head coach Scott Linehan.

DOLPHINS HIRE CAPERS: Dom Capers joined Miami, giving Nick Saban two new assistants with NFL head coaching experience.

Capers, hired as special assistant to Saban, coached the Texans for their first four seasons before being fired the day after they finished the 2005 season 2-14. He also coached the Panthers in their first four seasons, from 1995-98.

On Sunday, Saban hired Mike Mularkey as offensive coordinator. He coached the Bills to a 14-18 record the past two seasons.

TIGHT END RETIRES: Former Bills tight end Jay Riemersma, who hasn't played since tearing his right Achilles' tendon in a game more than a year ago, is retiring, his agent said.

In 112 career games, he caught 221 passes for 2,524 yards and scored 23 touchdowns.

MUSGRAVE JOINS FALCONS: Ending a search that lasted three weeks, Atlanta coach Jim Mora confirmed Bill Musgrave as the team's new quarterbacks coach.

Mora wrote, "Hired Musgrave!" in an e-mail to the Associated Press. He offered Musgrave the job as Michael Vick's position coach after an interview at team headquarters in Flowery Branch. The Falcons sought a replacement for Mike Johnson, whom Mora fired on Jan. 4.

FOUR TOPS TO PERFORM: The Four Tops, one of Motown Records' biggest hit producers, will perform at a black-tie Super Bowl kickoff event Monday.

The musical group will join sports stars and celebrities at "A Detroit Salute" at the Fox Theatre, the host committee said.
