ATLANTA - Stephanie Higgs scored 19 points and April Phillips set a career high with 11 points as Georgia Tech beat Wake Forest 66-61 Sunday for its first Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season.
Georgia Tech (12-6 overall, 1-4 ACC) opened with a 22-8 lead and held on for a 28-23 halftime advantage. Wake Forest (10-7 overall, 2-3 ACC) rallied in the second half and took its first lead with 7:32 left on two free throws by Cotelia Bond-Young.
Tech took the lead for good at 52-50 on a put-back by Janie Mitchell.
Chioma Nnamaka had 10 points and seven rebounds for Tech. Kasha Terry had 10 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Liz Strunk and Bond-Young each had 17 points for the Demon Deacons. Deirdre Naughton added 16 points.
