High School Players of the Week

LUTHER HOLMES, GREENBRIER

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Forward

HT./WT: 6-foot-4/190 lbs.

WEEK'S WORK: Holmes and the Wolfpack faced two ranked teams in Baldwin and Wayne County and also met up with Burke County. Holmes scored 14, 14 and 16 points, respectively, in those games - and also averaged four assists, four blocked shots and 12 rebounds.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "I want to mention the work he did down low against the 6-foot-9 kid from Baldwin. He more than held his own with that guy. The thing about Luther is his versatility. His best skill is he handles very ball very well for a big man. He plays a lot down low, but he has the ability to step out to the 3-point line and drill a shot and then go back in and bang down low with all those big boys, too."

- Coach Casey Dees

KAYLYN SMALL, RICHMOND ACADEMY

YEAR: Sophomore

POSITION: Center

HT./WT.: 5-10/240

WEEK'S WORK: Small, dubbed "Baby Shaq" by her teammates, averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and 2.3 steals in three games over the past week. Small has made drastic improvement in the game she displayed during her freshman season. She's also blocking 2.4 shots per game this year.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "Baby Shaq is always working and learning what it takes to play the low post area. I am truly impressed with the way she protects the paint."

- Coach Harry Bufford
