Hornets agree to play in Big Easy

OKLAHOMA CITY - The New Orleans Hornets on Thursday reached an agreement to play three games at the New Orleans Arena in March and move two other games scheduled in Baton Rouge this month to their temporary home in Oklahoma.

In their first games in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets will face the Los Angeles Lakers on March 8, the Nuggets on March 18 and the Los Angeles Clippers on March 21.

Also, the Hornets will play their games Jan. 13 against Sacramento and Jan. 18 against Memphis in Oklahoma instead of at Louisiana State University's Pete Maravich Center in Baton Rouge.

The Hornets moved to Oklahoma City in September after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and damaged the arena. The team was to play 35 regular-season games, plus two preseason games and any playoff games, at the 19,163-seat Ford Center

HAWKS: Atlanta requested waivers on center John Thomas on Thursday, six weeks after claiming him off waivers.

The 6-foot-9, 265-pound Thomas played in 11 games with Atlanta, averaging six minutes, 0.8 points and 0.9 rebounds.

BULLS: Chicago signed rookie Randy Holcombe to a 10-day contract on Thursday.

The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Holcombe averaged 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 19 games with the Gary Steelheads of the CBA.

CAVALIERS: Backup center Zendon Hamilton was waived hours before the club would have had to pay his full $719,000 salary.

Hamilton averaged 2.3 points and 4.2 minutes in 11 games for the Cavs.

Coach Mike Brown said there was a possibility Hamilton could re-join the club on a 10-day contract.
