WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Judge Mary O. Herrington, 86, life long resident of Burke County, entered into rest on Monday, January 2, 2006, at Burke Medical Center. Judge Herrington was born in Burke County on June 13, 1919, to the late Manor and Belle McCullough Oliver. Judge Herrington served Burke County as Probate Judge from 1964 to 1996. Judge Herrington was a graduate of Girard High School. She graduated from Palmer Business College in Augusta and Georgia Public Officials Certification/UGA School of Governmental Studies. Judge Herrington was a member of the Eastern Star, Georgia County Officers Association and the First United Methodist Church where she taught Primary Sunday School for many years. Judge Herrington was preceded in death by a brother, L.C. Oliver. Survivors include her sons, Tim Herrington (Katisue) of Dublin, Ga., and Franklin Herrington (Cheryl) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; brothers, Leroy Oliver of Sylvania, Ga., and Rev. Tom Oliver (Betty Jean) of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Dr. Heather Herrington (Greg Clark) of Eastman, Ga., Amanda and Garrett Herrington, both of Stone Mountain, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church Waynesboro with Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers being asked to serve are Harold Herrington, Greg Coursey, Preston Lewis III, Roy Black, Jerry Daniel, Dub Harper. Honorary pallbearers being asked are all Public Officials of Burke County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, from 1-2 p.m. prior to services. The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 420, Waynesboro, GA 30830, in honor of Judge Mary Herrington.
