HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Katie Lightsey Carpenter, 82, entered into rest on Sunday, January 1, 2006, at her residence. Mrs. Carpenter was born on May 15, 1923, in Evans County, Ga., to the late Willie Wyman Lightsey and Olive Carrie Kittles Lightsey. Mrs. Carpenter was a Registered Nurse, retiring from Gracewood State School and Hospital. She was a member of the Barton Chapel United Methodist Church and Barton Chapel UMW. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, William Roger Carpenter, Sr.; daughter, Grace Carpenter; sisters, Nell, Stella, Mary and Ruth; brothers, Mitch and Bill. Survivors include sons, Michael Carpenter (Patricia) of Bandon, Ore., Kerry Carpenter of Hephzibah, Richard Carpenter (Sue) of Sacramento, Calif., and William R. Carpenter, Jr. (Teresa) of Johnston, S.C.; daughter, Katie C. McDaniel (Gene) of Hephzibah; stepson, Godfrey "Billy" Chaffin, Jr. of Daytona, Fla.; sister, Carolyn Kearse of Atlanta; grandchildren, Michael Scott Carpenter, Miles Riley Carpenter, Katie Moore, Christopher Carpenter, Jason Carpenter, Michele Carpenter, Grace Moore, Kerry Anne Moore, Olivia Carpenter and Sarah Beth Wise; great-grandchildren; KimberlyAnn Carpenter and Keslin Carpenter. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2006, from the chapel of DeLoachKennedy Funeral Home, Hephzibah, with Rev. Robert Reese officiating. Burial will follow in Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rogers Carpenter, Kerry Carpenter, Michael Carpenter, Brian Ramage, Michael McDaniel and Geoff Robinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barton Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Lawana Reese, P.O.
