CANTONMENT, FL. - On Thursday, December 29, 2005, Luke Allen Maples went home to be with the Lord. He went to sleep in the arms of his mother Wednesday night, and woke up Thursday morning in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. With prayer chains reaching out all over the world through God's people, Luke's life touched many. He had fought a long battle with Cystic Fibrosis. He was two years old. Luke is a native of Cantonment, Florida, a small town just north of Pensacola. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Ronnie Mullikin, of Evans, GA. Luke is survived by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allen and Robbin Lynn Maples. Joseph, a native of Augusta, GA., and Robbin, a native of Burlington, NC., want to let all of their friends & family know, that they are grateful for their prayers both during this time and during Luke's life. Luke has a brother, David Wesley Maples (6), and two sisters, Emma Rae Maples (4) and Olivia Grace Maples (3 months), all of Cantonment, FL. Additional survivors include: his paternal grandmother, Margie Mullikin of Evans, and his paternal grandfather, David Maples, of Raleigh, NC. Luke's maternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Ray and Sheila Davis are missionaries in Ghana, West Africa. Luke is survived by two great-grandparents, his paternal great-grandfather, Bobby Story of Hephzibah, GA, and maternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Davis of Molino, FL. Luke has three uncles and two aunts, Bill and Angie Hughen of Molino, FL., Charles and Alicia Turner of North Augusta, S.C., and Steven Jackson of Martinez, GA. In addition to these, Luke very much enjoyed his four cousins, David, Bethany, Lauren, and Ethan Hughen, all of Molino, FL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2006, at 2:00pm, at the Chapel of Hatcher, Chance, & Hydrick. The services will be conducted by Luke's grandfather, Missionary to Ghana, the Rev. Ray Davis, his Pastor of Walnut Ave. Baptist Church in Pensacola, Pastor Mark Glodfelter, and Pastor Len Chavis of Lumpkin Rd. Baptist Church in Augusta. Some of Luke's favorite songs will be sung by Mr. & Mrs. Ken and Janice Widener of Augusta. Pallbearers will be four of Luke's Brothers in Christ: Steve Taylor of Pace, FL., Peter Glodfelter of Pensacola, FL., Rev. Brad Newsome of Augusta, GA., and Barry Bull of Mt. Vernon, GA. The family will receive friends & relatives from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
