HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mr. Harry Newton Oliphant, 88, husband of Mrs. Ruby G. Oliphant entered into rest Friday, December 23, 2005 at the residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 26, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. from the chapel of Hatcher, Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Wendell Underwood officiating, interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Oliphant was a native of Jefferson County and had lived in the Augusta area since 1967. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church. Mr. Oliphant was a veteran of WW II in which he served as a Staff Sgt. Bombardier and flew 31 combat missions with the 305th Bomb group of the 365th squadron 8th Air Force of Chevleston, England. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Additional survivors include, two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Toni Oliphant of Aiken, S.C., Jeff and Pam Oliphant of Woodstock, Ga.; one granddaughter, Claire Oliphant andone sister, Dorothy Godwin of Plains, Ga. Active Pallbearers Carey Underwood and Wesley Underwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the 8th Air Force Museum, P.O. Box 1992, Savannah, Ga. 31402 or The American Cancer Society P.O. Box 1725 Augusta, Ga. 30901. The family will recieve friends Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
