Born in Meridian, MS, on May 22, 1922, to Kelly and Mary Elizabeth Gay, she lived in North Carolina before coming to Augusta in 1952. Mrs. Hendrix was a Licensed Practical Nurse who practiced for twenty-three years at the University Hospital and in the surgical ICU at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center where she received a letter of commendation for her superlative nursing care. Throughout her life, her motivation was her dedication to Christ and His work. As a wife and mother she was diligent and tireless. Her church work was not a duty, but a passion, which she passed on to others, always setting a standard of excellence. Sharing a dry wit with her husband, Ira, she was the quiet support which allowed him to be a leader in their church. Throughout her life Margaret Hendrix demonstrated a love and respect for all people which she believed was simply, "living as Christ". Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, Ira Edward Hendrix and an infant son. Mrs. Hendrix is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maribeth and Mike Simmons, grandchildren Karen Simmons and David Simmons and a sister, Amber Hollander. Her family expresses appreciation to the staff at A.G. Rhodes Home in Marietta for their loving care. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Christmas evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention.
